Composer and Guitarist
Oscar Alcalá is a classical guitarist who started composing in 2009. Since then, his music has been performed regularly in the Americas and the United States.
Prominent soloists, groups, and orchestras have interpreted his music, such as Cuauhtémoc Rivera, Nathan Fischer, Clara Loisch, Manuel Espinás, the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, the Mexico City Woodwind Quintet, the NU Quintet, Cuarteto José White, Túumben Paax, the Zacatecas Philharmonic Orchestra, the Universidad Panamericana Symphony Orchestra, and the Cinco de Mayo Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
He won the 6th International Music Composition Contest for his String Quartet “Nuestra America” in 2016, and the 3rd “Manuel M. Ponce” National Composition Contest in 2017.
He was winner of the Best Music Award at the 2021 NYX Game Awards in 2021 for his work on the videogame “Greak: Memories of Azur”.
He graduated as a classical guitarist at Universidad de las Américas – Puebla (UDLAP). He has an M.A. in Music Composition (UNAM) and an M.A. in Aesthetics and Arts (BUAP). He earned a Ph. D. in Creativity and Culture Theories (UDLAP) and is currently studying for a Ph.D. in Music Composition at UNAM.
