Omar Arellano
Jiutepec, Morelos, 1995
Composer, Pianist, Guitarist, Singer, Audio and video producer and editor, Professor at
university level for the ETDM UAEM
Omar Arellano was born on June 14, 1995 in the municipality of Jiutepec, Morelos. His first musical
approach was in the Grupo Amanecer (Jiutepec, Morelos) at the age of 14 and as time went
by he became the group’s representative and musical director, being in charge of more than
80 people at times in community cultural musical presentations.
In search of becoming a professional in the musical field, he began his formal studies at the
Centro Morelense de las Artes (CMA). Subsequently, he completed a degree in Musical
Composition at the School of Theater, Dance and Music (ETDM) of the Autonomous
University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), graduating with honors.
In 2020 he won the “Arturo Márquez Composition Contest for Chamber Orchestra” with the
piece entitled Chinelo Mitotiani, a work that reflects the musical identity of Morelos. He is
a member of the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM). He was invited
composer in the year 2021, for the PECDA Project “Entre cuerdas y guamúchiles, aires
sonoros morelenses”, with the work Guamúchil, original composition for cello and piano.
During the period November 2021 – August 2022 he was director of the Cuicoyán Cultural
Center, of the Amanecer Cultural Community, in the municipality of Jiutepec, Morelos.
In 2022 he founded and directed the group “Los tecolotes en el tejado”, a musical ensemble
that specializes in playing folkloric and traditional Mexican music.
In 2024 he had his debut as a composer in the Main Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts, Mexico,
with his piece Chinelo Mitotiani as part of an anniversary program, performed by the Fine
Arts Chamber Orchestra (OCBA).
Also in 2024, he was invited to perform an arrangement for the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN), for a tribute dedicated to composer Gonzalo Curiel, as part of the activities for the 90th anniversary of the Palace of Fine Arts. The composer’s musical work ranges from music for small ensembles, traditional music ensembles, choir, symphonic and chamber orchestra, symphonic band and interventions in audiovisual projects, composing original music for stories and short films.
He is also a pianist, guitarist, singer, audio and video producer and editor, professor at
university level for the ETDM UAEM, as well as a culture maker in the community of Jiutepec,
Mor.
